doesn’t get much gayer than this

alcazar1.jpg

i was installing the newest version of itunes when i came across an old favorite in my music library - alcazar! way back in 2001, these swedes were among the best when it came to cheesy dance music. think steps with a naughty streak - and a little less dead weight.

magnus.jpgmy favorite was “crying at the discotheque,” which was notable for it’s dramatic title and for being the only song in history to mention richard gere. i cannot ignore the fag-tastic video, which features skin tight space-age costumes and dancers with various animal heads. yes it’s very weird, but in the most awesome way imaginable! it is, naturally, the ¡viva la graham! video of the week; i’m feeling nostalgic, what can i say?

as if alcazar weren’t camp enough, they later added a fourth member, super-queen magnus carlsson (pictured, right). he’s very pretty, isn’t he? actually, that outfit is very smart.
haha, speaking of, i’ve got to go… project runway is on!

the quiet chili pepper

john-frusciante.jpgthe red hot chili peppers are notorious exhibitionists. though we did love the socks on cocks schtik, nowadays, the guys tend to keep their pants on. but that doesn’t mean we still don’t get to see a bit of flesh. after all, homoeroticism has long been a part of rock ‘n roll.

in a band like the chili peppers, it’s easy to blend into the background - especially when you’ve got two attention hogs (frontman anthony keidis and bassist flea) fighting for the spotlight. i tend to notice the quet ones, and i’ve always thought there was something hot and mysterious about guitarist john frusciante.

johnfrusciante1.jpgwhether its in concert or for a video, john isn’t afraid to follow keidis’ lead and show off a bit (the clip for their recent single, “dani california,” was actually the inspiration for this post). so i’m sure you saw this coming, but we simply must welcome frusciante into the ¡viva la graham! hot rockstar club. also, if you’re so inclined, i’m sure you’ll enjoy a few more photos of our favorite chili pepper after the jump.

bitter bitches

sugababesnew.jpgdon’t fuck with sugababes, because they will re-write history! on their upcoming greatest hits collection, the girls have replaced all vocals recorded by founding member siobhan donaghy. why? because they hate that bitch!

these girls obviously care more about drama than anything else… but at least their new single, “easy,” is totally hot (most notably for the lyric, “got such a pretty kitty, boy / know you wanna pet it”). seriously. check it out on myspace.

hmmm, i wonder what my chances are if one of the other girls decides to leave? it doesn’t look good, mainly because i’d dwarf them in high heels… haha! oh yeah, and there’s no way i could tuck it.

seth meyers’ big chance

sethmeyers.jpgi’m still mourning tina fey’s departure from saturday night live. i might be in the minority, but i thought the show had been pretty funny since amy poehler joined her as co-host on ‘weekend update.’ some sketches work better than others, yes, but i was laughing more often than not.

her successor was finally announced this week - cast member seth meyers is not only the show’s new head writer, he’ll also be joining ms. poehler behind the ‘weekend update’ desk. the season premiere is one week from today, so we shall see if he can rise to the challenge.

i really like seth. he’s funny and kinda cute… i’m bummed they didn’t give amy poehler a solo gig on the famous fake news sketch (she could have been just like katie couric!), but i can deal with this. after the announcement that other cast members would not be returning, i’m just hoping things don’t go downhill from here.

i have one final wish, lorne michaels… since rachel dratch lost her starring role on tina fey’s new sitcom, 30 rock (she was demoted to “recurring character” status), can she come back to snl?? pretty please! oh well, i guess i won’t hold my breath.

gays in ‘the office’

oscarnunez.jpgas of last night, nbc’s hit comedy the office has a recurring gay character. the season premiere episode, titled “the gay witch hunt,” was very tongue-in-cheek, and, as usual, extremely funny.

steve carell’s character, michael, offended office accountant oscar (pictured, right) when he said it was “faggy” of him to prefer shakespeare in love over die hard (haha!). check out this clip of the human resources guy (i think) telling michael that oscar is, indeed, homosexual. his response?

“i would have never called him that if i knew. you don’t call retarded people ‘retards.’ it’s bad taste. you call your friends retards when they’re acting retarded… and i consider oscar a friend.”

theoffice.jpgafter outing him to the office, michael plants an awkward smooch on oscar in front of all his co-workers. y’know, as a show of support. it was hysterical…

i just started watching this show over the summer, so i’m still getting into it… but i think they handled this very well. they got the most laughs by making fools of those who can only identify gay people through stereotypes, which is commendable. i’ll definitely continue to tune in this season, especially to see what happens with oscar (and his “roommate,” gil) in the future.

the fag in me cannot resist

cherish.jpgi realize that i’m about three or four months behind the times on this one. at first, i didn’t really want to like new r&b group cherish - they’re soooo destiny’s child! but i guess now that kelly, beyonce and michelle have packed it in, why not give in to this feisty group of hotlanta sisters?

to make it up to them, i’ve decided to make their debut single, “do it to it,” the ¡viva la graham! video of the week. yes, they already have another video out (”underappreciated“), but i’m still diggin’ on the first one!

by the way, i bet none of you can say you’ve been to a drag show in the past two months and haven’t seen one of those queens lip-synch to this shit! am i wrong??

a few things about a madonna video

madonna.jpgit’s not really her in the video, mind you, but it is set to her latest single, “jump.” i highly advise that you check this out. while it is very well done for a fan-made clip, it raises several questions:

  1. who the hell is hilye, this strange creature trying to pass herself off as madonna?
  2. is this hilye a woman or a man in drag? i thought i saw an adam’s apple, but i couldn’t tell for sure.
  3. why didn’t hilye bother to actually learn the song before shooting this elaborate video? madonna, a notorious perfectionist, would not be amused.
  4. is hilye available for entertainment purposes at parties and weddings? she’d be such a hit, i just know it!

‘ta-dah’: track by track

ta-dah.jpgthe scissor sisters do their best to defy the sophomore slump on ta-dah, the much-anticipated follow-up to their multi-million-selling debut. it’s just as kitschy, campy, catchy and clever and as its’ predecessor… and even if does stick to a familiar formula, that’s saying a lot.

as you might expect, i already have my favorites. so let’s get to it! here’s my track-by-track review:

  • “i don’t feel like dancing” - currently atop the u.k. charts, this mid-tempo retro-disco track was a safe choice for the first single. that doesn’t mean i don’t love it, of course, especially because it’s so adept at getting my feet moving. it is also important to note that elton john plays piano on this track, in essence proving the band has been given the stamp of approval from one of their biggest inspirations.
  • “she’s my man” - this one reminds me a bit of fleetwood mac, but only until the chorus kicks in. then the melody is pure scissor sisters… that and the gender ambiguity. i don’t know if this one’s quite single material, but i have a feeling that it’s going to grow on me.
  • “i can’t decide” - i love this one, and not just for the great naughty lyric in the first verse (”fuck and kiss you both at the same time”)! it’s got an old-school country vibe to it, but it works well with the subject matter. “i can’t decide whether you should live or die,” shears sings before running through several options for comedic homicides. brilliant.

not just a pretty face

nedrooney.jpgthere’s a bit of a modelizer in all of us. for me, it seems i’m most fond of former models who join bands (it happens more often than you think). case in point: ned brower, the studly drummer for rooney.

i’ve actually seen these guys in concert before, but i somehow never noticed the hottie on the skins. then, by accident, i stumbled across some old pictures of ned in his pre-rockstar days. he was in disguise, with bleached and straightened hair. either way, in my humble opinion, he’s very sexy… which means, of course, he’s the newest member of the ¡viva la graham! hot rockstar club.

oh yeah, those pics i came across, they’re totally r-rated. yes, ma’am! check out the “artistic” nudes of mr. brower after the jump. obviously, nsfw.

‘futuresex’ gets me off

justintimber.jpgi was sort of ahead of the curve with justin timberlake’s “sexyback,” which currently sits atop the billboard hot 100. i like it but i played the shit out of it two months ago.

that said, i’m not sure it was the best choice for justin’s big comeback. ever since the mtv video music awards a few weeks back, i’ve been jerking off to justin’s brand new single (the one he played before “sexyback” on the vmas), “my love.” it is, in my opinion, the best track he has ever recorded. i thought so immediately. and usually when i instantly fall in love with a song like that, i never get tired of it (like “crazy in love” a few summers ago).

even so, i still wasn’t sold on his new cd, futuresex/lovesounds - until i found out that you can hear streaming audio of the whole album over at mtv online. the verdict? for the most part, it’s very impressive. but don’t take my word for it… give it a listen! let me know what you think.
