i’m not one to comment on politics — at least not here on the blog — but i couldn’t ignore one of the articles in the latest issue of rolling stone. the story, “run, al, run,” basically begs former v.p. gore to make a bid for the presidency while also alleging that it has been his plan all along.
writer tom dickinson makes a pretty strong argument for his candidacy, noting gore’s turnaround in the public eye thanks to his stance on the iraq war and environmental issues. (he’s been against the war from the beginning, and he’s nominated for an oscar for his global warming documentary, an inconvenient truth.) now it turns out that gore has been nominated for a nobel peace prize as well. not bad for a man who was once considered the epitome of uncool.
i’m not sure who i’d vote for as of yet, but i think it would be interesting if gore entered the fray at the last minute.
in case you missed it (or haven’t seen it in a while), here’s his ironic turn opening saturday night live a few seasons back. even though it’s meant as a joke, it begs the question — is it too late to turn back time?
