grass is always greener

i was nervous when i heard charlotte hatherley had left ash to strike out on her own. she did release a vibrant, successful solo effort (in the u.k. at least), grey will fade, in 2004 while on a hiatus from the band, but i still had reservations.

her new disc, the deep blue, has leaked onto the internet ahead of its march release, and i’m sorry to report that it isn’t nearly up to par. then again, after two tepid singles in a row — “behave” late last year and “i want you to know” next week — this shouldn’t come as a surprise.

i propose that charlotte bin this record, rejoin her old band, and we can all pretend this never happened. no? well, at the very least let’s numb the pain with an “oldie-but-goodie” from her first album. here’s the video for “summer”:
