shake it up

kidsontv3.jpg

until yesterday, i had never heard of kids on tv, a toronto-based queer band that has been calling attention to a controversial myspace censorship policy. their original profile got deleted, and they aren’t too happy about it. myspace must have something against silver bandanas (i’m kidding!).

anyway, kids on tv are best described as “punk-house queercore,” which is pretty evident from this photo. while their music might not be my cup of tea, i respect them for doing their own thing. ooh, and i bet seeing them perform live is an interesting experience, as they tend to prefer doing so in their underwear. check out a few live shots after the jump.

on another note, apparently frontman john caffery (the brunette with the faux hawk) appears in john cameron mitchell’s shortbus, which it just so happens is on its way to me right now via netflix. i’ll let you know what i think…

first south park, now the daily show. everyone’s favorite fake news show did a satiric profile on ex-gays last night. correspondent jason jones spoke with two men: wayne and richard, two flamers who experienced different results with therapeutic attempts to get straight.

the entire clip is hysterical, but i especially like when jones presses richard regarding the possibility of a current same-sex attraction. “i’m a straight man, how am i going to convince you?” he asks… and then he belches loudly, stands up and stretches. wtf??

it gets even better, but i’ll let you see for yourself…

british divas unite for charity

i now present to you every little english pouf’s big gay dream come true! sugababes and girls aloud together on one track, a completely unnecessary but altogether lovable cover of “walk this way.” i hope you enjoy the camptastic video clip, which i meant to post weeks ago but it somehow slipped through the cracks.

“walk this way” currently reigns supreme atop the u.k. singles chart, which is especially nice as the proceeds go to charity. but hopefully both girl groups will soon get back to business and come up with something even better (read: original) next time ’round.

menomena.jpg

…three men in a tub! i’m not a massive fan of indie rock band menomena, but i do quite enjoy these comical promotional photos of the boys. i wish more hot rockstars would hop in the tub together.

while all three of the guys are handsome, i’m partial to justin (center). i could see myself dropping the soap for him, haha! two more gratuitous shots after the jump…

pray the gay away

butters.jpgi don’t always get into south park, but sometimes it hits its target dead on. last wednesday’s episode, “cartman sucks,” involved little clueless butters being shipped off to a gay reform camp. the punchline was that butters had no idea what “bicurious” meant — he was blindfolded when his dad caught cartman trying to suck him off (long story!) — so he doesn’t really understand what’s going on around him.

the best part was that the episode was surprisingly pro-gay. yes, it went a bit over the edge by portraying these kids killing themselves because they feel so bad about possibly being gay. but at the very end of the episode, as one manic kid is about to jump off a bridge, butters helps to redeem this with a stirring speech:

“my name is butters, i’m eight years old, i’m blood type o, and i’m bicurious. and that’s ok, because if i’m somehow made from god, then i figure that god must be at least a little bicurious himself.”

after the jump, watch an amusing clip featuring a very flaming camp counselor…

giving in to the goth

despite my reservations, i like shiny goy guns. they might not be completely original, but i think they’re fun in a sullen electro-goth kind of way.

here’s the video for “you are the one,” their debut u.k. single and most likely their next stab at stateside success. on this one, frontwoman carah faye charnow graciously shares lead vocals with guitarist gregori chat petree. so they’re mixing things up a bit, you see?

as for the video, “you are the one” takes up where the scary spider-woman from the “le disko” clip left off, as it regrettably features an ominous winged creature. i’m going to let this slide because it is otherwise quite good and also because my 16-year-old cousin thinks they’re brilliant (and yes, i realize this also means that i am well past it).

oh yes! it’s also the video of the week

‘french’ twist

excusemyfrench.jpgaccording to a statement on kylie minogue’s official web site, “excuse my french,” a track that many believed had somehow leaked from her current recording sessions, isn’t kylie after all.

the site claims kylie has never recorded a song by that name, despite the fact that the vocals sound exactly like those of the australian pop princess. since they say it isn’t kylie, that means i can share the mp3 here on ¡viva la graham! without legal consequences… so here you go (right click save as)! obviously, like myself, some other obsessed fan was convinced enough to create this mock-up of a single sleeve cover (pictured), so this official denial really only deepens the mystery.

though the truth may never be known, i think the track was purposely leaked to see what sort of immediate response the demo would receive on the internet. many were not impressed, which could explain why she would not accept responsibility for it. i agree that it’s not the best song ever — definitely not single material — but it would have been a nice album track.

any thoughts from other kylie fans out there?

only a matter of time

mariovazquez2.jpgcloseted singer and former american idol contestant mario vazquez has finally been called out for his queerness, according to tmz.com.

a lawsuit was filed by a former male employee of the reality show alleging that mario aggressively approached him in the restroom with sexual intentions. the “victim” said that at one point mario started beating off in front of him and on another occasion mario practically begged to suck his cock.

apparently the employee complained to his superior and was then dismissed from his job on the show. soon afterward, mario left as well citing “personal reasons.”

personally, i think this sounds hot. and i bet that guy was totally into it, he just knows he can probably get some money out of it now. for some reason i doubt this will prompt another “i’m gay” people magazine cover.

big is beautiful

bethditto.jpghere’s the unapologetically buxom beth ditto at the nme shockwave awards a few weeks back, looking pretty damn hot if you ask me. somehow she’s never been featured on ¡viva la graham!, and for that i apologize.

for those of you who don’t know beth, she’s the out-and-proud frontwoman for the gossip, a portland-based band who have cracked the top ten in the u.k. with their scorching single “standing in the way of control.” you might have seen them on logo’s music program new now next, but if you haven’t i highly recommend checking them out.

beth has become notorious in the british tabloid press for her strong opinions on everything from britney’s bald head (she approves) to size zero model kate moss (take a wild guess). she even said it wasn’t wonderful opening up for the scissor sisters, which surely won’t do any good for the often-wide fag-dyke divide! regardless, i don’t have much respect for a bitch who is not afraid say what’s on her mind.

idol about town

kellieandme.jpg

i ran into kellie pickler last night at nashville nightspot virago. she was with her hockey player “friend” jordin tootoo (among others) but i managed to work up the courage to say hello. i totally kissed her ass, telling her i was a huge fan (a small lie) and that i thought her american idol performance last week was “beautiful” (an overstatement).

this is definitely not the best photo of me, but kellie is looking good. she was really sweet and was willing to chat for a minute and take a photo. for being so gosh-darn cute and unpretentious, i wish her the best of luck.
