300-3.jpg

before i had seen the preview for spartan epic 300 (watch it over at the flick’s official site), i didn’t understand why my partner was so keen on seeing it! although the blood and violence might not appeal to many gay men, these warrior studs are sure to stop a few queers in their tracks.

you can catch 300 when it lands in u.s. theaters tomorrow, but to tide you over i’ve got a few more gatuitious underwear shots after the jump.

mimi does nashvegas

mariahglitter.jpgmariah carey has been in nashville recently filming a movie called tennessee. obviously the city is so happy to be hosting a film production that they’ve feigned amnesia concerning mimi’s cinematic past.

when they shot a scene of mariah performing at lower broad honky-tonk second fiddle, director aaron woodley told the media that “people were weeping on the crew when she sang… it’s very moving…”

i dare say this film could rival glitter, mariah’s notorious belly flop of a biopic, when it comes to being gleefully garish. according to a nail specialist friend of mine who was contacted by the production, mariah’s character sports airbrushed nails, which is pretty much the epitome of ghetto. my friend is a bit too classy to provide this particular service, and it’s unfortunate, really. she definitely could have provided us with some priceless diva gossip…

moshi moshi

i know this has made the blog rounds already, but i had to share it with those of you who might not have seen it already.

here’s robyn’s video for “konichiwa bitches,” a song that succeeds thanks to her formidable rapping skills. who knew, right? i was never a big fan of robyn in her euro-pop days (remember “show me love?”), but i think this track is really fun. plus the clip is irresistibly clever, which is why it’s the video of the week!

by the way, i highly recommend the trentemoller remix. in my opinion, the original version is too succinct and not as engaging.

buyer beware

natashabedingfield2007.jpgnatasha bedingfield has finally unveiled the lead single from her sophomore effort, n.b.

“i wanna have your babies” is an upbeat, infectious pop song that should prove to be another global hit for the british songbird. you can stream the track and watch a teaser of the forthcoming video over at her myspace page.

i like the song, i really do. but when i listened closely to the lyrics, i must admit i was a little creeped out. i suppose, as a gay man, it doesn’t affect me really, but for the sake of her potential suitors, let’s examine the chorus.

“gonna button my lips so the truth don’t slip / gotta beep out what i really wanna shout / whoops, did i say it out loud, did you find out / i wanna have your babies, get serious like crazy / i wanna have your babies, i see them springing up like daisies”

let’s assume natasha has just met this guy, since she starts acting like glenn close in fatal attraction during the bridge…

“trust me it would scare you if you knew what was going on in my brain / trust me it would scare you that i picked out the church all the schools all the names / if you knew it was all about you / every wish every candle every coin in the fountain”

yikes! it is nice that she has given full disclosure here, but when women talk like this it’s like sex & the city never happened!!

on a more positive note, i do quite like the album cover. very annie lennox.

self-fulfilling prophecy

britneyspears-rehabshirt.jpg

here’s britney shopping back in january 2007. i know it’s difficult with all that’s going on this picture, but pay special attention to her “rehab” t-shirt. at the time, it was meant to be one of her trademark “ironic” tees. we now know that the most striking irony here was that her tank top was predicting the future.

causing a commotion

kelis2.jpgkelis was arrested for disorderly conduct yesterday — and it wasn’t for one of the disturbances she was likely wearing (this mess pictured here is tame for her) or the glaring pink distraction on top of her head.

the real reason for her arrest involved her unprovoked profanity-laced diatribe directed at several police officers who happened to be outside a club in miami.

even though kelis isn’t known for being terribly prim and proper, i’m a little surprised by this. she must be even more desperate for publicity than usual. put those frustrations back into your music, honey! it was much better when it was loud and angry anyway.

UPDATE: the cops were actually undercover… posing as prostitutes… which really only makes matters more confusing.

standing in the way of control

melaniec.jpg

i’m not sure how recent this photo of melanie chisholm was taken, but she’s looking pretty good here. now if only she were right in the head…

former manager simon fuller claims she’s the only spice girl hesitant about a proposed reunion. on one hand, i can understand her position. they split up forever ago! let her do her solo thing.

but then i heard found out what she was doing next. turns out melanie c recorded a pointless cover of bow wow wow’s ’80s smash “i want candy,” which will serve as her new u.k. single (watch a recent performance here). she’s picked a downer as the lead track in other regions of europe, a mostly-boring ballad called “the moment you believe” (watch).

ugh! i hate to agree with fuller, but if this is the best mel c can do, she needs to pack it in. you can’t fight fate, my dear. give the people what they want!

makes my cherry pop

just when you thought it couldn’t get any gayer…

i thought i’d follow up my mostly-naked guys post with a fag-tastic dose of christina aguilera… here’s the sassy clip for her very retro new single, “candyman.” i know pretty much everyone on the planet thinks this song is annoying, but i kinda like it.

better in 3-d

here’s a portion of an article i wrote for the march issue of city at night magazine:

durcholzinaction.JPG

Photographer revs us up with provocative new 3-D exhibit

“The male figure has long been an inspiration for various forms of art, from classic sculptures to abstract paintings. As technology has advanced, more modern methods of expressing artistic creativity, including photography, have emerged. Naturally, the human body has had a profound affect on those behind the lens.

Just a few years ago, writer-cum-photographer Eric Durcholz became curious about a unique, novel way to appreciate the essence of man. He got the idea from a pair of 3-dimensional glasses he received with his box of Honey Nut Cheerios.

“I salvaged the glasses to see if there were some hot boys online [in 3-D] to look at,” he said. “There weren’t, so I decided to make that happen.”

Durcholz, with a little help from the internet, learned how to compose a 3-D image by joining two cameras together with a home-made device. After experimenting and perfecting his digital imaging skills, he found and photographed several male models with thrilling results. A gallery owner in Chattanooga was impressed by the finished product, and he asked if he could hang the pictures up in his new gallery. Durcholz accepted, and thanks in part to his enchanting, often scantily-clad subjects, the creations received plenty of attention.

The popular black and white images come to life in a manner that is both titillating and astonishing. Once the 3-D glasses are slipped on, a sort of virtual reality takes hold. More than just voyeuristic, the viewer nearly becomes a part of the deliciously salacious story taking place within each frame.”

the exhibit takes place in nashville on march 8 at lucky’s garage. check out a few 3-d images (best viewed with the glasses!) after the jump, or head to durcholz’s web site for more information.
