she is woman, hear her roar

natashabedchair.jpgi like natasha bedingfield, i really do. so it pains me to see her continue to sing songs with topics like maternal urges (”babies”) and now, in new single “soulmate,” a woman’s quest to find the man she was meant to be with. (download via ultimate music zone)

“who doesn’t long for someone to hold,” she sings in the chorus. “somebody tell me while i’m on my own / if there’s a soulmate for everyone”

i don’t want to begrudge a singer with some morals, but poor natasha acts like the women’s lib movement never happened! either that or she really identified with charlotte on sex and the city, so much so that she decided to write an entire album from the perspective of a ’50s gal who preferred finding a husband to pursuing a career.

regardless, the song will likely be a huge hit, in the u.k. at least. i could be wrong, but something tells me the young sluts of america might not find this all that interesting… which is a shame, because besides the ultra-traditional themes the song is actually pretty good.
