here’s the new ash video, in which the band makes a political statement by portraying children on a battlefield instead of grown-ups. of course there is neon-colored smoke and frontman tim wheeler is wearing a stripey sweater, so the mood isn’t all gloom and doom. i guess this is what happens when a director decides to take a lyric literally — in this case it must have been “terror in your eyes.”
this aside, “polaris” is actually the best ash single since “sometimes,” and that’s saying something. interestingly enough, wheeler said recently that their brand new disc, twilight of the innocents, would be their last album proper, and that they would only release singles from this point forward (with their record label periodically releasing compilations). it’s something to do with the “digital age,” and i think he might have something there…
