yes and no

“sexy! no no no…,” the new single from british girl group girls aloud, is a high-energy, guitar-fueled dance track that will satisfy most euro-pop tarts, yet despite its appeal i don’t see it making waves on this side of the pond. americans tend to limit their intake of drivel to disney musicals.

it’s puzzling, though. i’m surprised girls aloud haven’t been embraced by u.s. gays at the very least. they’re such divas, and their songs are almost always dance-floor friendly. then again, not even sugababes have really cracked the states (and in my opinion they have a much better chance). go figure.

the ‘babes are back

sugababes07.jpg

the new sugababes single “about you now” made its debut on radio 1 today, but so far i haven’t been able to find streaming audio of the entire track.

from what i’ve heard, the song is just as amazing as i hoped it would be. if you liked what the group did with that arctic monkeys cover earlier this year, this will be right up your alley. check out a clip at the girls’ myspace, and watch this space for the forthcoming video.

also, on a side note, they say heidi (pictured, center) is pregnant because of her pose in this new press photo. and obviously newbie amelle (left) doesn’t pull rank, because they chose a photo in which she’s the only one not looking the part. photoshop can’t fix a blank expression, but don’t worry, dear. it will get better with time.

UPDATE! for the time being, you can find a radio rip of “about you now” online here and here (via kevipod music).

i touch myself

zacrollingstone.jpgi boycotted hairspray even though several people i trust said it was worth seeing. i just don’t think anything can top the original, even if twink wet dream zac efron plays tracy turnblad’s main squeeze.

here’s the high school musical cock tease on the cover of the latest rolling stone. yeah, this is old news by now, but i couldn’t pass this up. could he look any gayer? i think not. but even if he’s gone a little crazy with the spray-tan, i can’t complain. i still would.

i can’t wait ’til he gets caught with his pants down in a truck stop mens room.

the cheese stands alone

does no one else love shiny toy guns? i’m beginning to think that i stand alone. or at least i’m in a very small minority. yes, their videos are very silly, but it’s mainly because they try too hard and the clips feature shoddy computer effects. shouldn’t the music speak for itself!?

so you’ve seen “le disko” and “you are the one.” here’s the latest, “rainy monday.” popjustice calls it one of the best pop singles of 2007, and i can’t say that i disagree. if only they’d stop trying to emulate orgy

while you were sleeping

danieljohns.jpgdo you recognize this hotness? most likely you do not, unless you’re australian.

let’s all think back to 1996, when he first burst on to the scene. he was a young blond punk, and many thought he looked liked kurt cobain’s adolescent younger brother.

still can’t remember? here’s his photo, perhaps it can jog your memory… he’s the guy from silverchair, daniel johns!

a lot has happened for daniel in the past 10 years. he married his longtime love natalie imbruglia, he overcame his struggle with anorexia, and he underwent a major makeover to emerge as one of the hottest front men on the planet.

his band’s new record, young modern, is making waves in the u.s. (the first to do so in quite a while), so hopefully we’ll be seeing more of him. check out more photos plus the clip for new single “straight lines” after the jump. Continue Reading »

no son of ours

small-towngay.jpg

this picture is so wrong, but at the same time, hysterically funny. it accompanied a fictional story from the onion alongside the headline, “small town holds annual gay shame parade.”

the article isn’t nearly as fabulous as this over the top photo, but it’s still worth a look if you’ve got a john waters sense of humor. the sad part of it all: if small towns could get away with this kind of shit, some of them would surely try.

straight outta toontown

i’m obviously still catching up from my vacation, because here’s another one that’s been floating around for a bit. it’s lily allen singing vocals on a jazzy reimagining of kaiser chief’s “oh my god” cooked up by the delicious mark ronson.

ms. allen doesn’t appear in the video, unfortunately. instead it’s a sexed-up animated character designed (very roughly) in her image. it’s a cute clip (and not just cos of mark), but i wish they’d had lily in the flesh — even if in reality she isn’t such a flirty minx.

don’t threaten me with a good time

rockoflovebret.jpgfollowing in the footsteps of flavor flav, bret michaels enlisted vh1 to round up a dozen or so willing participants to dry hump him while a camera loomed. you can’t really blame the poison front man, can you? he’s in his mid-40s now, and after all these years he can’t be bothered to bar hop in search of adoring groupies. (it doesn’t hurt that he probably pocketed a hefty paycheck for his trouble.)

so rock of love has been on for a few weeks now, and though the format is the same as its predecessor, i find these girls to be a bit more entertaining. kudos to the casting director for finding some of the most outrageous ladies on myspace (that’s where they found them, right?)!

don’t get me wrong, i loved me some buckwild and goldie… but this time around it’s a whole new ballgame. i mean, would a crazy cowgirl like rodeo have shown up for flav? i think not. also, it’s rare that one gets to witness a battle of wits between tipsy blondes with massive boobs (one of whom brought the phrase “clown tits” into the cultural lexicon). see what you’ve been missing??

mutya gets her groove on

mutyab.jpgthis isn’t news for blog addicts, as it already made the rounds, but i realized i had yet to mention groove armada’s fantastic “song 4 mutya (out of control)” featuring mutya buena. the ex-sugababe did well with her debut single, but this one is improving on that success.

dripping with ’80s synths and new wave style, the track suits mutya rather well. the video doesn’t really mesh with the song, in my opinion, but when you’ve got a single this good (and a singer this photogenic), it doesn’t matter.

also, i must say… after the modest success of “i see you baby (shakin’ that ass),” who knew groove armada had this in them?

future knockout

adamsadie.jpg

rumer.jpgjessica-alba.jpgwho is this little bundle of joy, you ask? her name is sadie, and she is in fact the daughter of a famous funnyman. unlike some of her peers — suri, shiloh and kingston, to name a few — this wee one doesn’t get nearly as much attention from the paparazzi.

so who’s the daddy? snl alum adam sandler. see it now?

she might not appear as glamorous as suri cruise in her designer baby duds, but some day she could be a looker. no joke, in 20 years she could be jessica alba! her mom is hot, so lord knows she’ll end up cuter than rumer willis. ok, that was mean & heartless, rumer is workin’ what she’s got.
