british rockers athlete are poised for major success. new single “hurricane” is the first from their forthcoming third disc, beyond the neighbourhood, and it looks set to become the band’s biggest hit to date (it’s tipped to enter the u.k. top 20 today).
stateside, of course, no one has heard of them. and it’s a shame, because athlete’s melodic brand of guitar-pop is complemented nicely by front man joel pott’s effortlessly emotive vocals. perhaps if “hurricane” does well enough, some american record exec will take note and bring the band over here. wouldn’t that be nice?

hey grahammy! I love Athlete. Somebody in Birmingham turned me on to them, and I’m totally hooked. Haven’t really heard all the very latest stuff, but I LOVE Vehicles & Animals.
