i finally have the new kylie album, and it is pretty much amazing. for all the super fans out there who have yet to hear x (it’s out next week in europe but not till february in the u.s.), here’s a detailed synopsis. (you can stream it in full at mtv.uk.)

    • 2 hearts – it’s not “can’t get you out of my head,” but i think it is one of her best singles to date. i love the burlesque-glam vibe, and i love that it’s winning over new fans.
    • like a drug – this electro-pop gem could have been on britney’s blackout, only this is much better. it definitely has radio potential.
    • in my arms – the first of 3 tracks leaked from the studio sessions. this club banger has been condensed (i miss some of the spoken bits), but it is still unbelievably fab.
    • speakerphone – how’s that vocoder? there’s too much talk of bones, but still it sounds like fever. i’m ready to dance!

    • sensitized – it sounds like it could have been on kylie’s most underrated album, impossible princess, and that’s a major compliment. if only the producer had ditched those annoying “whoos.”
    • heart beat rock – kylie does craig david. it’s definitely got a garage feel, but it’s done right so all is well.
    • the one – sonically, this is dancefloor heaven. otherwise, there’s not much to this one, but it’s great for a chill-out session.
    • no more rain – one of 2 songs that address kylie’s personal struggles, and for that reason i love it.
    • all i see – an r&b moment, very body language. for some reason i feel like listening to “red-blooded woman.”
    • stars – great album track, but perhaps since i’ve already heard it, i’m not blown away. not offensive but not a standout either.

    • wow - an ’80s classic in 2007! a highlight in the vein of “love at first sight.” they say this one is a future single.
    • nu-di-ty – total camp, but it’s still a great song. i’m surprised brit didn’t snatch this one up first.
    • cosmic – a finale that totally makes me cry. “i put these things aside for years / till laughter took the place of tears.” i’m so glad you’re back, kylie!
