P!nk Makes Out with Herself in New Video

    2008 - 11.26

Check out the beautiful clip for Pink’s thought-provoking new single, “Sober.” Ornate Victorian furniture fills the sets, stylish punks party hard amongst cigarette smoke and booze bottles, yet it’s the scene where Pink straddles herself on the plush bed that is likely to get the most attention. I must admit it’s pretty hot when Pink bites the other Pink’s lip and looks her right in the eye. Lesbians are sure to cream themselves.

Then, of course, there’s this bit where one Pink helps another Pink vomit in the toilet. Not so glamorous! But you can’t exactly omit such a scene in a song about going overboard, right?

    Rock N Roll Revelation

    2008 - 11.23

Feeling nostalgic for post-punk, melody-friendly grunge? Well, break out your old flannel shirts and tattered stone-washed jeans, cos it’s time to party like it’s 1991. U.K. rockers Dinosaur Pile-up are turning back the clock with an astounding debut single called “My Rock N Roll.” It could easily pass for a long-lost Nirvana classic, only it somehow sounds very 2009 as well. Well done.

Just gaining exposure across the pond — NME.com recently gave the track 8/10 — the band is so new they don’t even have an official web site up and running (though apparently they’ve just been signed to a major record label). You heard about them here first, my friends.

Don’t take my word for it. Give it a listen and leave a comment!

Sasha Fierce Is Dead to Me!

    2008 - 11.22

I’m not sure who came up with this Sasha Fierce character, but I’d like to give them a serious beat down. Beyonce can be irritating enough on her own (full disclosure: I’m still “Crazy In Love”), now she takes it a step further with this tart! I do applaud her for bringing the robotic glove to the mainstream (everyone needs one!), but otherwise Sasha Fierce is nothing but a useless but effective marketing ploy.

Of course, the gays have eaten this shit up. Case in point: a random mega-queen called Shane Mercado has become an internet celebrity thanks to his re-enactment of the dance in the video for “Single Ladies (Put a Ring on It).” He performed on The Bonnie Hunt Show, plus he inspired a slew of hysterical copycats. Even SNL got in on the Sasha Fierce action with an actually-quite-funny parody of the clip with Justin Timberlake last weekend.

Ok, so Sasha Fierce has inadvertently provided us with a few laughs. But it’s also unwittingly given Beyonce loads of publicity, so we’ll most likely be stuck with that bitch for the unforeseeable future. The worst part of all? I’m starting to like that horrible fucking song!! Somebody put me out of my misery.

    New Kings of Leon Video

    2008 - 11.13

I prayed for it a few months ago, and they have been answered! Here is the video for the new Kings of Leon single “Use Somebody” and it is fantastic. It’s a simple concept — hanging out in the hotel room, playing a massive gig — yet it is quite beautifully portrayed. And the boys are even shirtless every now and then. I couldn’t ask for anything more.

In other HELL YEAH news, my current pop obsession Alphabeat will be opening up for Katy Perry on her forthcoming tour. And they are coming to Nashville this April. I’m going to go change my pants now.

    Some Days She’s a Super-Bitch

    2008 - 11.12

Christina Aguilera (pictured, right) finally addressed the comparisons she’s been receiving to up-and-coming pop star Lady GaGa — many saying that Christina’s new look seems like low-rent Lady GaGa — and she isn’t mincing words about it. While promoting her new singles compilation, Christina swore to the L.A. Times that she’d actually never heard of Lady GaGa until recently:

“You know, that’s funny that you mention that. This person [Lady Gaga] was just brought to my attention not too long ago. I’m not quite sure who this person is, to be honest. I don’t know if it is a man or a woman. I just wasn’t sure. I really don’t spend any time on the Internet, so I guess I live a little under a rock in that respect.”

Damn, Christina! I can totally sense her contempt when she refers to Lady GaGa as “this person!” And then she calls her a tranny! Was that really necessary? Apparently there’s a little desperation in Camp Aguilera. I suppose a snarky-sound bite never hurt record sales.

    Travis Remembers How To Rock

    2008 - 11.10

Scottish band Travis quietly released their sixth effort, Ode to J. Smith, in the U.S. this week. Mostly famous for their ballad, “Why Does It Always Rain On Me?,” the boys get back to their roots with their latest, which rocks harder than anything since their debut (anyone else remember “All I Want to Do Is Rock”?).

The video for new single “Something Anything” sums it up best, with guitarist Andy Dunlop wailing on his guitar, wishing every Travis song was so insane! Check it out after the jump.
