    Pink Means Business

    2009 - 02.27

The third clip from Pink’s Funhouse, “Please Don’t Leave Me,” lends a jolt of crazy to the song’s despondent tone. The slick video features the pop star in full-on horror movie mode, with nods to Misery, What Ever Happened to Baby Jane, and The Shining. She plays the part so well that you almost don’t feel sorry for the guy she’s imprisoning. Give it a look to see if she gets away with it.

Kudos to the director, by the way, for giving an otherwise so-so single a major makeover. I was originally hoping for an upbeat Pink track to be released next, but now I’m okay with this.

Lily Allen Fucks and Tells, Comes Out on Top

    2009 - 02.25

    Lindsay Lohan and Lily Allen

God bless Lily Allen and her big mouth. Just as her new album dropped, she earned herself two tabloid headlines I had to comment on. The first involves her new beau — or maybe just boy toy? Apparently she’s been shagging Audio Bullys DJ Tom Dinsdale. Then the clever girl went ahead and spilled some juicy details to a Q magazine reporter.

“The hunk in my kitchen. Well, he’s hot. He’s cute, isn’t he? I had a sleep-over two nights ago and he came along.

Quite young, for me. What d’you wanna know? How big his cock is? It’s very nice.”

Tom DinsdaleCan’t say I’d kick Dinsdale, pictured, out of bed. But I’d try not to ruin it all by blabbing about it in a major publication. I agree with that hot slut at Dlisted — talk up a dude too much and the whores will pounce on him! Believe me.

Moving on! It’s no surprise that Lily has become fast friends with Lindsay Lohan and then posted pics of the pair online. They even got matching tattoos that say, “shhh,” a la Rihanna (Well, I suppose they could be temporary…). Surely these two were having a laugh! I mean, there are no secrets here. And how fitting is it to see Lindsay wearing a Catwoman mask?? Samantha approves!

All things considered, Lily knows that even ridiculous media coverage like this can translate into record sales. It’s Not Me, It’s You entered the Billboard charts this week at a very respectable no. 5, while she currently sits at no. 2 after debuting on top in Britain last week. Apparently Lily can have her cock and eat it too. Well done!

Ra Ra Riot Video, Sans Happy Ending

    2009 - 02.22

Here’s the video for Ra Ra Riot’s “Can You Tell,” which I gushed about a few weeks ago. This clip is even more heartbreaking than I imagined, and John Cusack doesn’t even show up with a boombox to make it all better. Still in love with this song, by the way.

Mandy Moore and Ryan Adams Engaged

    2009 - 02.21

    Mandy Moore and Ryan Adams

Was anyone else confused when they learned that rocker Ryan Adams and reformed pop tart Mandy Moore had gotten together? Now they’ve defied the naysayers by announcing their intention to walk down the aisle. Congrats to the happy couple, but we mustn’t neglect the most important question of all: Will Mandy serenade her groom with “I Wanna Be With You” at the reception?!

But seriously… I think they’re both talented, though Adams seems more rough around the edges than Moore’s previous beaus (Andy Roddick, I’m lookin’ at you). And I know that Mandy has tried to establish herself as a Serious Artist and put that squeaky clean image behind her (she won me over when she threw that bible at Jena Malone in Saved!), but I thought Adams liked his ladies a bit more, well, quirky (I love you Winona Ryder and Parker Posey!). Maybe that’s not the right word, but you catch my drift.

Example: When asked about her dress, Mandy Moore actually said, “Good golly! I haven’t even begun to think about that stuff.” Good golly!! Enough said.

Anyway, more power to them! But I have a word of advice for Mandy. If, during marital spats, you get really upset, DO NOT bring up “Summer of ‘69.” That shit is unforgivable.

    Sparking Success for Friendly Fires

    2009 - 02.20

    friendly fires

U.K. electro-rock trio Friendly Fires has flirted with fame for over a year now. Their smashing debut single, “Paris,” helped earn the band a recording contract though it didn’t turn them into massive rock stars. That’s surprising considering the act’s modern appeal — their sound is reminiscent of bands like Cut Copy and Klaxons with perhaps a dash of old-school Pet Shop Boys.

Things are about to change for Friendly Fires. New single “Skeleton Boy” is one of the most infectious, engaging tracks I’ve heard so far this year, and the accompanying clip is equally ace. Though it lacks much color, the visually stunning promo video is full of energy and movement (watch it below). The fact that the band scored a spot on the U.S. tour with White Lies only proves that the word is spreading like, well, wildfire (couldn’t resist, forgive me!).

The self-titled Friendly Fires debut disc is available on XL Recordings.
    I highly recommend it.

    Lady GaGa Lezzies It Up

    2009 - 02.19

    Love Game

In the 5th (!) video from Lady GaGa, the shamelessly suggestive “Love Game,” she decided to sex it up a little — and that’s saying something considering how steamy some of her past clips have been. Let’s take a scandal inventory: she’s naked, covered in glitter; she’s in the middle of a three-way, legs straight up in the air; and choreography includes plenty of gratuitous crotch-grabbing.

Surely the hot girl-on-girl makeout session in the subway station vestibule will garner the most attention. GaGa has been open about her bisexuality, so in the video the shots cut back and forth between two attractive uniformed cops — one male, one female. Let’s just say it looks like she’s enjoying herself.

So what are you waiting for? Watch it already!
