Britney Tops Chart with By-The-Numbers ‘3′

    2009 - 10.16

Britney Spears’ fans flexed their purchasing power last week with new single “3,” propelling the pop star to No. 1 on the U.S. Hot 100 in its first week on the chart. The club-friendly track, which appears on the singers’ forthcoming singles collection, encourages sluts the world around (me included!) to participate in a menage a trois. “3 is a charm,” Britney coos. “Living in sin is the new thing.”

I don’t begrudge Britney for getting her freak on, but in my opinion she could have done better. “3″ is mediocre at best — not unlike “Do Somethin’” from her last hits compilation. But it should satisfy die-hard devotees until Spears finishes her next full-length. Judge for yourself:

Notes on the New Britney Vid

    2009 - 03.18

The clip for “If U Seek Amy” emerged last week, and I’m finally getting around to putting in my two cents. First, can I say that I’m glad Britney’s record company chose this track as a single, even if it might have upset conservative parents and religious groups. Madonna is surely beaming as well. Now on to the inane commentary.

A few points of discussion relating to the video above:

    • When Britney picked up the silky pair of panties, how badly do you think she wanted to smell them?
    • Can she really bake a delicious pie?
    • In the faux-news intro, was it necessary to spell out the track’s racy, blatant innuendo?
    • Was it possible to include a bit more thrusting in the choreography?
    • Am I the only one upset about Brit’s dark roots in the final sequence (see below)?
    • How ridiculously tongue-in-cheek is the finale, when the reporter says, ‘It doesn’t make any sense, does it?’”
    • Why, in a daring act of viral marketing, wasn’t there a reference to Britney’s pussy hanging out?

    If U Seek Amy

    From One Sagitarrius to Another

    2008 - 12.04

A gift, for me? Britney, you shouldn’t have!

Just in time for my birthday — that’s today, bitches! — Britney unleashes the video for “Circus,” the title track from her brand new album (which she released two days ago on her birthday). I must say that the big-top theme doesn’t really do it for me, but otherwise this song is miles beyond that “Womanizah” tripe (though I admit I danced my ass off to that shit just like most of you!).

The clip is pretty much exactly what you’d expect. Britney in the center of the ring, hanging out with lions, elephants and men on stilts. She does look flawless, I’ll give her that! There’s the obligatory dance sequence, and Britney poses with a top hat. Exciting stuff, right?? Where’s the bearded lady, that’s what I want to know?!

Anyway, watch it while it’s hot! Oh, and did you know that “gift” can mean “poison” in German? There’s a fun fact for you.

    Britney’s New Video Succeeds

    2008 - 10.11

…thanks to director Joseph Kahn, the man behind Ms. Spears’ infamous “Toxic” clip. “Womanizer” employs the same general technique, with Britney taking on multiple personas and pretty much kicking ass. She looks fantastic, I must admit, and she even has a nude scene in a sauna to show off her new bod.

I have two favorite parts: when Britney photocopies her ass and rips it up in front of the extremely hot womanizer in question; and when she leaps into the backseat of a limousine she is driving and steers with her high heel. Brilliant! Especially for someone with a history of driving problems.

One final note… If only “Womanizer” didn’t sound like a Pussycat Dolls cast-off. Then I’d be totally sold.

If the above video doesn’t work, try here.

no place to go but up

    2007 - 12.23

with all the insanity surrounding jamie lynn’s shocking pregancy announcement last week, britney spears’ new video for “piece of me” has sort of been swept to the side. and it’s a shame because the clip is surprisingly good — much better than the grainy, slipshod promo for “gimme more.”

this time around britney isn’t looking so drowsy (read: medicated). she even manages to muster up a few dance moves without that stripper pole, so we’re definitely headed in the right direction. hey, the song’s not too shabby either…

i couldn’t have said it any better.

britney was going through the motions (at best) during her vma performance sunday night. she blew her big chance, and even though i’m disappointed and upset about it, i still feel bad for her.

as for her future, “gimme more” will still be a club hit, at the very least. we shall see whether or not this is the final straw for her pop career.
