welcome winter

here’s the new gwen stefani video for “early winter,” as promised. the song has been edited slightly to make it a bit shorter, but it doesn’t really effect the beautifully-broken vibe of the track. she looks fantastic, of course, and i especially love the contrast of her virginal white dress and the blood red rose petals. the video is definitely as haunting and ethereal as the song.

what do you think? will this be a hit or miss for gwen?

a lover and a fighter

adam_levine_wi.jpg

this photo is 2 weeks old, i know, but i had to post this halloween party pic of maroon 5’s adam levine. he decided to dress up like brad pitt’s character from fight club, tyler durden.

his abs aren’t as tight as brad’s were at that point, but he doesn’t care. this is the perfect costume for a shameless show-off.

speaking of fight club, that brings to mind my favorite line from the film, when helena bonham carter says, “i haven’t been fucked like that since grade school.”

notes on the new natasha bedingfield album, single

natashaseanllt.jpgi do enjoy natasha bedingfield, despite the fact that i am still bombarded with “unwritten” several times a day in makeup advertisements and chick flick film trailers.

lucrative licensing aside, i am intrigued by the u.s. launch of her second album. originally titled n.b. for obvious reasons (think about it!), the powers that be demanded a change and so it has now been re-christened pocket full of sunshine. now then, doesn’t that make you want to buy it more??

lead single “love like this,” featuring labelmate sean kingston, was not on the original version of n.b. the aforementioned decision-makers didn’t think european lead single “(i wanna have your) babies” would fly on this side of the pond, and for that i applaud them. on the downside, i get the feeling that there’s little of bedingfield in this recipe.

i suppose it doesn’t matter, as the slow pop jam has grown on me with repeated listens. despite the vocoder! hence my list of “love like this” fun facts:

  • in the first verse, natasha sings, “we were cool back in high school / ooh i really liked you,” while nat is british and they do not have “high school” in england.
  • as proven in the photo above, bedingfield and kingston are a natural pairing. he obviously isn’t doing this for the money. haha!
  • whomever is in charge of finding the “love interest” in her videos should be commended. first the cutie from “unwritten” and now this hot piece! well done.

sell out to blow up

bensbrother.jpg

i heard ben’s brother before i actually knew who they were. that’s them in that bubblegum commercial, the one that goes: “so kiss me again / so i can stop this st-st-st-st-stuttering” you can’t blame them for wanting to get their music heard, whatever it takes, right?

anyway, after a bit of research i connected the dots and found their myspace. i do like that the british band’s name has to do with the lead singer’s feeling of inferiority, like he was living in his brother ben’s shadow all his life. clever.

as for the song, in its entirety, “stuttering” doesn’t pack as much punch as its catchy chorus, but i still enjoy it. the rest of their tunes are alright, but for the most part they’re too m.o.r. for my tastes. ’tis a shame.

the other minogue

here’s the new clip for dannii minogue’s “touch me like that.” the jason nevins collaboration is probably the gayest disco anthem i’ve heard in a while, and despite my better judgment i actually like the song.

whoever came up the video’s concept, however, should be punished. her costume is tacky and the set is uninspired. she obviously doesn’t have the same budget as her sister!

technical difficulties

britneykids.jpg

sorry the site was down recently. the matter has been resolved and i am now back to business.

while you wait for the next post i present you with this priceless photo of britney’s little ones. at least they have each other!

hypocrisy

perezhilton.jpg

is anyone else annoyed by douche supreme perez hilton? he’s one of the biggest morons on the planet, even if his web site is totally addictive.

how is that someone can berate celebs for doing drugs and gaining a few pounds when that person is no better?? i’ve heard from reliable sources that mr. hilton likes the nose candy, and we all know he could stand to lose a few… so how can he get away with calling everyone else out for those very same reasons? i guess it’ll keep happening as long as people keep visiting his site. but still, where does he get off?

mad hatter masquerade

roisinhat.jpg

i might be mistaken, but that looks like a paper plate on roisin murphy’s head. this shot comes from the irish electronic artist’s new video, “let me know,” which is actually a top dance track. unfortunately this fact is overshadowed in the clip by the aforementioned headgear and her questionable dance moves.

several blogs are all aflutter over ms. murphy, but i don’t think her solo stuff measures up to her finest moments in moloko. remember them? probably not.

after the jump, for compare/contrast purposes, you can watch “let me know” as well as moloko’s biggest hit, “the time is now.” (more…)

eyebrows notwithstanding

looks like robyn is batting 3 for 3. here’s the video for the swedish pop star’s new u.k. single, “handle me,” which is almost as good as the fab clip she did for “konichiwa bitches. i love how she fuses hip-hop, pop and electronic so effortlessly. why can’t more artists do so with such wit and style? let’s just pretend to not notice the way those black brows clash with her blonde locks.

after robyn’s previous single “with every heartbeat” hit no. 1 in britain (despite a so-so video), her prospects this go-round are very promising. hopefully if that track takes off in the u.s., which could very well occur, “handle me” will cross the pond as well.

if not, at least we can enjoy it and feel slightly superior, no?

obligatory girls aloud post

girlsaloudsexyno.jpg

does the world really need another moderately dance-able, severely overproduced girls aloud record? most likely no, but we’re getting one regardless!

after repeated listens, i’ve grown to strongly dislike their last single, “sexy! no no no…,” probably because it wasn’t that great to begin with. anyway, they’ve got another single that i could take or leave, and so far it doesn’t grate on my nerves. you can listen to “call the shots” in the media player in the sidebar, or over at girls aloud on myspace. it reminds me of last call for some reason, like “alright, finish up your fruity cocktail and get out!” don’t you think?

at least the girls are looking fit, and providing inspiration for drag queens and drunk slags all across the sceptered isle. but still, you’d think by now they would have learned a few things from the sugababes, who continue to get better with each record. apparently not.
