light a match

here’s an alternate version of holly valance’s “kiss kiss,” a random dance-pop song that was a big hit in australia and the u.k. in 2002. why am i posting it just now? well, let’s just say this re-working is absolutely fantastic, but at the same time completely juvenile. if we share a similar sense of humor, i promise you will be moved to tears.

dare to be different

haircutbangs.jpg

kids these days try so hard to be unique. but thanks to myspace, we now see that teens around the globe who claim to be “individuals” are really just carbon copies of each other. check out the patterns from above (via demonbaby): sullen expression, sweeping bangs, obscured vision. it must be so tough these days to be a suburban white kid! at least now they have a place online where they can exchange makeup tips.

i originally found this image on the myspace page of a bar/music venue here in nashville called the 5 spot. only the caption underneath guided the aforementioned pouty brats to an “emo” hangout across town: “keep this at rocketown. please! do not even ask to play here.” funny as it may be, there’s a harrowing fact lurking beneath… these kids are our future.

cooler than you

myspacecoolpeople.jpg

we all know myspace is not really as cool as it once was. i mean, as soon as your parents joined, you knew it was pretty much past it. but wait! now that hip old coot dennis kucinich is joining the party, along with several other “with it” politicians, the ubiquitous social networking web site is totally going to be revitalized. take that, facebook!

so obviously i’m kidding, but i do think it’s interesting that politicians are trying to infiltrate the site to find younger supporters. i don’t know if it will work, but i do think it’s hysterical to see faces like his in that ridiculous “cool new people” box.

beer nuts

here’s bruce willis being interviewed courtside at a nets game with some random kid. they are obviously tipsy, so of course this short clip is full of fun.

i’m not sure what part i like best: when bruce disses cybil shepard, when he curses in character, or when the reporter introduces him as bruce “wilson.” no joke!!

largo or bust

leave it to the daily show to put a humorous spin on a very touchy topic. in this segment titled “suddenly susan,” correspondent rob riggle takes a look at the controversy surrounding a floridian city manager’s announcement that he is trangendered — and that he plans to get the snip. poor steve stanton appears genuinely committed to his job, and this clip does a great job of showing the profound ignorance and obstinance of his senseless detractors.

i doubt this will change any minds, but regardless, i couldn’t cope with life if i wasn’t able to laugh — even about things that cause sorrow.

kitty calendar contest

i haven’t watched much of vh1’s acceptable.tv, but i did come across this actually-quite-funny clip from the new show. it’s a short spoof of a reality show called “operation kitten calendar” in which photographers compete to take the best kitty pics.

the best parts include the asshole host degrading the contestants, telling them to kiss his ass, and the poor girl who gets last pick of the kitties and ends up with a homeless-looking orange monstrosity. december never looked so bleak!

that’s what friends are for

drunkgirl.jpgpretty much everybody has been forwarded the email about the dangers of drinking. mind you, i’m not talking about getting arrested for driving under the influence… i’m talking about the one with the photographic evidence taken by friends when the victim is passed out or totally out of it (the photo at right is my absolute favorite).

the music video to justice vs. simian’s “we are your friends” takes this a step further by documenting a so-called compadre’s elaborate pranks on a group of unsuspecting drunks — and the chaos that ensues when the lushes finally come to. though i do not condone this sort of behavior (karma will eventually bite these sober bastards in the ass!), it makes for a fairly entertaining clip.

so be careful out there, especially if your friend is knocking back o’douls. and take it easy on those jagerbombs, okay?

does anyone remember this fantastic snl skit from several years back? lucy lawless plays stevie nicks in a faux-advert for a restaurant called the fajita round-up. when i first saw this i was dating a stevie nicks fanatic, so this clip sort of takes me back…

suffer for fashion

kirstenoscars2007.jpgsomething tells me kirsten dunst misunderstood this phrase. we’re not supposed to be the ones who suffer honey, you are!

it’s hard to feel sorry for the rich and famous, yet at the same time it’s hard to deny dunst a bit of tea and sympathy when, at the biggest red carpet event of the year, she turns up dressed like this.

i had planned on ignoring the oscar coverage (mainly because everyone else runs it into the ground), but i changed my mind when i read a clever commentary from the onion. the headline says it all: “oscars reveal widening gap between best, worst dressed.” factor in a few fictitious quotes from melissa rivers and you’ve got a sarcastic masterpiece.

i’d like to think kirsten will take this criticism and emerge victorious, but something tells me she’ll never cross over to the other side of the fashion chasm. oh well, at least she’s in good company…

condi’s wild weekend

ricewild.jpgthis headline definitely caught my eye when i was logging onto the ‘net this morning! i thought secretary of state condoleeza rice had finally been called out regarding her questionable extracurricular activities.

unfortunately, cnn did not report on condi’s racy sex romp (which may or may not have actually occured). the article was actually about a meeting with israelis and palestinians. whoever came up with that headline must have something else on the brain… or maybe it’s just me.
