bitter bitches

sugababesnew.jpgdon’t fuck with sugababes, because they will re-write history! on their upcoming greatest hits collection, the girls have replaced all vocals recorded by founding member siobhan donaghy. why? because they hate that bitch!

these girls obviously care more about drama than anything else… but at least their new single, “easy,” is totally hot (most notably for the lyric, “got such a pretty kitty, boy / know you wanna pet it”). seriously. check it out on myspace.

hmmm, i wonder what my chances are if one of the other girls decides to leave? it doesn’t look good, mainly because i’d dwarf them in high heels… haha! oh yeah, and there’s no way i could tuck it.

sugababes’ cover bliss

sugababes.jpgmost americans have yet to hear about u.k. indie heroes arctic monkeys. most american fags probably won’t pay attention even if the band achieves stateside success. but will queers pay attention to a trio of women? i know i usually do.

when u.k. girl group sugababes released their latest single “red dress,” it included a cover of arctic monkey’s breakthrough smash, “i bet you look good on the dancefloor.” believe it or not, the ‘babes managed to improve on the original (though since you’ve probably not heard this, it makes no difference); even the snobs over at pitchfork media thought it was brilliant . basically, what i’m saying is that all you queens will love this track… and now you can feel cosmopolitan and a little bit rock n roll!

i know you can download “dancefloor” online, but if you’d like something more tanglible (and archaic!), you can always order the import cd.

meet amelle berrabah, at far right, the newest member of the british girl group sugababes. for those of you unfamiliar with the popular r&b/pop trio, they’re famous throughout much of the world, having sold millions of records in their native u.k. and beyond. but there’s a bit of destiny’s child in these girls; this is the third time they’ve changed their line-up.

the first to jump ship was siobhan donaghy, who left amidst a flurry of drama in 2001. at that point, heidi (the blonde bombshell in the center of the photo) was chosen by management as her replacement. just a few days ago, amelle officially became a sugababe after mutya buena left the group. mutya found it too difficult to balance being a pop star and a new mother. sugababe keisha, at left, is the only founding member left in the new line-up.

i am a big fan of their music, but i find it disturbing that they let their management pick their members. they come off as very strong, independent women in their songs, but their hesitation to assert themselves creatively is a bit disappointing.

regardless, i still recommend checking out their stuff. angels with dirty faces is by far their best album, but they’ve had great singles otherwise. download “hole in the head,” “too lost in you,” “round round,” “freak like me,” “overload,” “push the button,” and “run for cover.”
